Get a Grip

Get a Grip

Some people enjoy clinging on to tiny rocks more than others. The participants of today’s bouldering competition are definitely of those who do so.

Today the top male and female boulderers gathered at Torget for this VEKO´s bouldering final. The weather was warm, the sun was shining and the audience had spread out on the grass ready to see some impressive performances by the climbers. And so they did. According to the head of climbing here at VEKO, Nic Mead, this was the strongest bouldering competition ever seen at VEKO.

Up and coming

Magnus Midtbø, who by many is considered to be the driving force behind the progressive Norwegian climbing, won the men’s finale.  It is sure to say he is an up and coming climber.

Therese Johansen won the women’s competition. She showed a very strong performance and managed to climb in ahead of Sasha DiGiulian, from the United States.

Laid back atmosphere

Both girls were very happy about today’s arrangement.

– I really liked the new rules they have used for the competition this year, this way it is easier to include more climbers of all levels. I hope they continue to use this system for other National contests as well, says Therese.

– What I like the most about this arrangement here in Voss is the laid back atmosphere, it does not feel like a competition at all. Everyone is really friendly here.
