Riverboard Race
Today’s riverboard contest in Strandelva was an action filled experience worth seeing.
The race was about 300 meters and even if it was over after just a few minutes, it was definitely an activity that offered great fun for both athletes and the viewers of the competition.
Kiwi Kicked ass
The first one down the river was 21-year-old Slee Larcombe from Christchurch, New Zealand. Slee is currently spending his third summer in Voss, and has ridden down Strandelva on his riverboard several times before. This time he was the one to hit the best turns and stay in the fastest water, which enabled him to win this race. Slee, who works as a rafting guide in Voss, uses the riverboard mainly for relaxation and recreation. From what we saw it did not look that relaxing though, as the challenge lies in avoiding the many rocks in the river combined with heavy paddling.
In all ten contestants participated in the race, seven guys and three girls.
Exhausting Exercise
Liselotte Kahrs, who competed in riverboarding here in Voss last year as well, came in second in this year’s women’s competition.
- Right now I am exhausted, but it was great fun. It is definitely something I can recommend for others to try. Just be prepared to hit a few rocks…
