Local hero wins Horgi Ned for the 2nd time

Joar Wæhle was the first one to finish the Horgi Ned contest. Luckily for him the price money cashed out enough to pay off a recently collected speeding ticket.

Horgi Ned, which is usually a triathlon, was “reduced” to a biathlon this year. As the summer has reached Voss and left us with no snow, the race consisted of only cycling and paddling. Despite the missing skiing exercise, the race was not easier this year, as the other two exercises were both tougher and longer than the previous years.

The "all-rounder"

The first one to cross the finish line was Joar Wæhle from Voss. After spending 23 minutes and 41 seconds on his bike and in his kayak, he collected his second Horgi Ned victory. Joar, who normally work as a teacher in Ørsta, admits to have spent most of his spear time preparing for this race. His winning recipe is to practice all year round, but not only the two exercises in Horgi Ned.

- I believe it is important to be in an overall good condition. I’m a typical all -rounder, he says.

Obviously Joar enjoys high speed whether it being on a bicycle, in a kayak or in a car. The price money is also well received, as it will go directly to the Norwegian Government to pay off a speeding ticket he collected recently.

No rain, No gain

The weather did its best to make this years experience more extreme as rain and thunder continued though out the whole contest. The contestants and spectators of Horgi Ned did not seem to take any particular notice of the weather conditions, as the atmosphere was impeccable.

All the 17 individual contestants and 15 teams that competed in this some what untraditional biathlon, showed us great athletic performances and gave us a close race from beginning to end.
